BO - (Kihon Sono Ni)

Osu! (kia on all tsuki thrusts as in Tonfa 2)

Execution of bo-jitsu techniques requires familiarity with four basic holding positions, bo warm-ups, all your basic blocks, strikes coming from strong basics.

1. Jun nigeri (basic hold)
2. Gyaku nigeri (reverse hold)
3. Yose nigeri (double hold)
4. Hasami nigeri (palm hold)
5. Should execute overhead strike flawlessly

Bo in left hand 2/3 hold to floor, 45 degree angle, heiko dachi, gaze straight ahead, knees bent, relax, right fist tight.

Yoi, Transfer bo to your right side, left hand to right hand transfer, smoothly, quickly. Once transferred to right hand swing bo in big continuous circle over your head from to left hand to right hand and back to right hand with left hand in the inner right hand holding the bo, release left hand and maintain yoi ready position.

Yoi, once again, left hand comes to right ear, hips turn to the right hanmi and back again. As you return to heiko dachi do gedan barai with left hand. Now lets go.

Ichi: Look left and simultaneously turn 90 degrees, as you turn use your right hand to raise bo to vertical position, left hand reaches across body to grip bo about two hand widths below right hand (similar to the way a baseball bat is held). Perform a (Yoko-uchi/gyaku-yoko-uchi strike). To deliver the yoko-uchi, assume an hidari zen kutsu-dachi (left foot forward leaning stance). Grasping the bo with jun nigeri (basic hold, right hand uppermost). Again this strike needs impetus, speed, power, (first move in your kata sets tone).

Remember to raise the staff over your right shoulder, positioning what was initially the right end of the weapon to the rear. Pivot, slide left foot out into a wide zen stance. In unison turning counter-clockwise 45 degrees at the same time swing the bo forward, down and around to your left side (yoko-uchi). Strike the opponent's solar plexus, powerfully, execute right overhead strike (uchi-otoshi), immediately followed by right two handed middle area thrust (tsuki-komi), kia powerfully.

Ni: Look over your right shoulder, stay low, turn 180 degree's deep into right zen and execute right middle side strike (yoko-uchi), left overhead strike (uchi-otoshi, then middle left thrust strik,. Kia powerfully.

Note: The first two moves of this kata are just that, two quick side moves, left then right.

San: Now down the H or I pattern whichever you see fit to set-up the pattern. While holding second position. Look left , slide into left zen 90 degree's stance execute left horizontal strike (yoko-uchi) to solar plexus, right overhead strike (uchi-otoshi), followed by right two handed thrust to middle area (morote chudan tsuki komi) kia, immediately come back to left fighting kamae with bo. Four moves here.

Shi: After Assuming fighting stance from move San. When you return to this fighting stance make it so, powerful looking and ready for next sequence. Change-up now down the line, execute left overhead strike (uchi-otoshi) while still in fighting kame, now execute right front snap kick (migi ashi mae geri) coming down into right  zen kutsu dachi, execute a left side two handed thrust to middle area (gyaku morote chudan tsuki-komi) kia, and come back to left fighting kame stance.

Go: Execute left over head strike (uchi-otoshi) while in fighting kame, execute a left front snap kick (hidari ashi mae geri), followed immediately by a right two handed middle area thrust (gyaku morote chudan tsuki-komi) into left zen kutsu dachi stance immediately coming back to a right fighting kamae.

Roku: Execute left overhead strike (uchi-otoshi) while in fighting kamae, followed immediately by right front snap kick (migi ashi mae geri), followed immediately by a left two handed middle area thrust (morote chudan tsuki-komi)) into right zen kutsu dachi stance and hold.

Nana: While maintaining zen stance and tsuki thrust, actually you could visualize your at the bottom of a T, need to turn go back down where you came from. Look over left shoulder, turn 180 degree's (mawate), wide, deep zen stance. While doing so execute a left yoko-uchi, right (uchi-otoshi), followed immediately by middle area lunge thrust (morote chudan tsuki-komi), withdraw immediately to Kihon Kumite No-kamae.

Hachi: After Assuming fighting stance from move nana. When you return to this fighting stance make it so, powerful looking and ready for next sequence. Change-up now back down the line, execute left overhead strike (hidari uchi-otoshi) while still in fighting kame, now execute right front snap kick (migi ashi mae geri) and set into right zen kutsu dachi, execute a left two handed thrust middle area (morote chudan tsuki-komi) and come back to right fighting kame stance.

Ku: Execute right over head strike (uchi-otoshi) while in fighting kame, execute a left front snap kick (hidari ashi mae geri) and set into left zen kutsu dachi, followed immediately by a reverse two handed thrust to middle area (gyaku morote chudan tsuki-komi), coming back to a right fighting kamae.

Ju: Execute left overhead strike while in fighting kamae, followed immediately by right front snap kick (migi ashi mae geri) set into right zen kutsu dachi, followed immediately by a left two handed thrust Tsukomi to middle area (morote chudan tsuki-komi), into zen stance and hold.

Ichi: While maintaining right zen stance holding two handed thrust, solid base, look over left shoulder turn 180 degree's (mawate) execute middle area side strike to solar plexus (chudan yoko-tsuki), over head strike to opponents head uchi-otoshi), followed immediately by a two handed thrust to middle area (morote chudan tsuki-komi). Hold next to last move while in zen.

Ni: Immediately come back to fighting kame, hold steady, Zanshin, mi-sen.

Yoi: Bring right foot to left (msuba dachi), at the same time swing bo overhead full 360 degrees and sidestep with right foot into heiko dachi.

Yoi: Transfer bo to your right side, left hand to right hand transfer, smoothly, quickly.
