Introduction: This kata uses angles that are difficult to describe. Therefore in order to simplify the instructions the use of eight points of the compass will indicate directions. North (N) indicates facing the front of the dojo or the direction faced at the start of the kata. The remaining points of the compass are as follows:
| Direction | Symbol | Description |
| North East | NE | = 45 degrees right of North, 315 degrees left of North |
| East | E | = 90 degrees right of North, 270 degrees left of North |
| South East | SE | = 135 degrees right of North, 225 degrees left of North |
| South | S | = 180 degrees right or left of North. |
| South West | SW | = 135 degrees left of North, 225 degrees left of North |
| West | W | = 90 degrees left of North, 270 degrees right of North |
| North West | NW | = 45 degrees left of North, 315 degrees right of north |
Yoi (Heiko Dachi, Facing North)
Ichi: Look to the left W, left foot pulls back 45 degree angle kiba dachi (body facing SW, head facing W), right tonfa jodan uke to the W, left tonfa chudan gyaku to the W (turning body to the right 45 degrees into zenkutsu dachi, direction of the head still facing W). Left mae geri followed by right tonfa chudan gyaku tsuki, Kia powerfully!
Ni: Look over the right shoulder and turn to the right (moving the right foot and body until they both point SE, the head stops when it faces East) into kiba dachi, left tonfa jodan uke to the East, right tonfa chudan gyaku tsuki (body rotates 45 degrees left, head remains facing East) into left zenkutsu dachi. Right leg mae geri to the East, left tonfa chudan gyaku tsuki, Kia powerfully!
San: Right foot pulls back to left kiba dachi body facing NE head facing N. Prepare for gedan barai by moving left tonfa up near right ear and cover groin with right tonfa then execute left tonfa gedan barai with ibuki (right tonfa hikite). Next, left tonfa tetsui uchi, as right tonfa executes chudan gyaku tsuki pivot on the balls of the feet into left zenkutsu dachi body and head facing N.
Shi: With right tonfa extended do migi ashi mae geri ending in right zenkutsu dachi, with left tonfa do chudan gyaku tsuki kia powerfully and cover and return to fighting stance kamae.
Go: Left foot steps forward and crosses to the right, right foot steps back slightly into left kiba dachi (body faces SE, head to the E), left tonfa soto uke, left tonfa yoko buri out, left tonfa yoko buri in, as the right tonfa executes chudan gyaku tsuki pivot on the balls of the feet into left zenkutsu dachi facing NE.
Rokku: Right foot steps forward and across, left foot steps back into kiba dachi facing SW, right tonfa soto uke, right tonfa yoko buri out, right tonfa yoko buri in, as left tonfa executes chudan gyaku tsuki pivot on the balls of the feet into right zenkutsu dachi facing NW.
Nana: Left foot steps forward and crosses to the right, right foot steps back slightly in to left kiba dachi (body faces SE, head to the E), left tonfa soto uke, left tonfa yoko buri out, left tonfa yoko buri in, as the right tonfa executes chudan gyaku tsuki pivot on the balls of the feet in to left zenkutsu dachi facing NE.
Hachi: This will be your most difficult move requiring balance, timing, hand position. Start form with ushiro geri by chambering right leg to the chest and pivot body, to face S, on the left foot in order to direct right ushiro geri to the north, fire kick, rechamber, maintain balance, now turn body and head to the north with both tonfas ready for tetsui uchi (see note#1) into moro ashi dachi, leave right tonfa extended (hikite). Slide right foot forward into right zenkutsu dachi and execute left chudan gyaku tsuki (at the same time right tonfa returns to ready position, kia powerfully).
Note #1: As you turn and execute the tetsui uchi, tonfas need to be in position. Right Tonfa parallel to the floor at jodan height across the front of the body, left tonfa parallel to floor at chudan height for hikite across the front of the body, pivot on the left foot and come down smoothly into right foot forward moro ashi dachi and striking tetsui uchi, sliding into right zenkutsu dachi at the same time left tonfa chudan gyaku tsuki kia powerfully!
Ku: Shift your weight to left leg as right foot pulls back to left kiba dachi (body facing NE, head facing N), left tonfa chudan uchi uke, left tonfa tetsui uchi, right tonfa chudan gyaku tsuki pivot on the balls of the feet into left zenkutsu dachi (body and head facing N).
Ju: Shift your weight to right leg as left foot pulls back to right kiba dachi (body facing NW, head facing N), right tonfa chudan uchi uke, right tonfa tetsui uchi, as left tonfa executes chudan gyaku tsuki pivot on the balls of the feet into left zenkutsu dachi (body and head facing N).
Ichi: Shift your weight to left leg as right foot pulls back to left kiba dachi (body facing NE, head facing N), left tonfa chudan uchi uke, left tonfa tetsui uchi, right tonfa chudan gyaku tsuki pivot on the balls of the feet into left zenkutsu dachi (body and head facing N).
Ni: Note #2: Now this move is a left side ushiro geri, and you will have a tendency to feel awkward on this move because of the left hand with tonfa is head high, right hand with tonfa is chest high, the same principles apply as in move Hachi above. Balance, pivoting, turning, maintaining form is crucial, the rest of this kata is pure angles and basic. These two moves are an introduction to Tazan which is very sophisticated and complex to perform as crane stances are included and once again balance is crucial. Shift your weight to the right leg, chamber the left leg to chest, move tonfas into position (see note #2) and execute ushiro geri to S. Rechamber the left leg, pivot on the ball of the right foot to face S. As you come down into left foot forward moro ashi dachi striking left tonfa tetsui uchi (do not retract tonfa leave extended). Shift your weight to the right leg and slide left foot into left zenkutsu dachi and finish with a right tonfa chudan gyaku tsuki (at the same time return left tonfa to ready position with powerful kia)!
San: Shift weight to right leg and cover. Then move left foot back and across (turn head and body 180 degrees) into left foot forward kamae (facing N)!
Note #3: Pay particular attention to stances. Emphasis on changing from Kiba dachi to zenkutsu dachi and back again is almost a hallmark of this Kata. Be sure you can do smoothly!
Note #4: Try not to blur changing stances to the point that they are not recognized as separate moves. Moro ashi dachi to zenkutsu dachi is a good example of this.
Note #5: In Steps Ku, Ju & Ichi be sure that tetsui uchi doesn't look like yoko buri.
