Furi Waza (Swinging Techniques)

1.) Tate Buri - This is a vertical swing. You can swing from up to down or down to up.
It is very important to keep your knees loose when swinging and move your body with the nunchaku.
Otherwise, you will hit yourself. When swinging the nunchaku in an upward direction, use your free hand
to protect against the nunchaku striking your face.

2.) Hira (Yoko) Buri - This is a horizontal swing. Again, make sure too use your total
body to swing the nunchaku. Use your free hand to guard against accidentally hitting yourself.

3.) Kesa Buri - This is a upward diagonal swing (i.e. opposite hip to same-side shoulder).
The nunchaku is always swung from the hip opposite the hand holding the nunchaku to the same
side shoulder. Use your total body to swing, or else you will hit yourself.

4.) Gyaku Kesa Buri - This is a downward diagonal swing (i.e. from same side shoulder to opposite hip).

5.) Hachiji Buri - The free end of the nunchaku moves in a figure eight(8) starting in a downward direction.
Use your whole arm to swing the nunchaku.

6.) Kote Hachiji Buri - The same as Hachiji Buri except the wrist only is used to swing the nunchaku,
not the whole arm, try and keep arm movements to a minimum.

7.) Gyaku Hachiji Buri - Swing the free nunchaku in a figure eight (8) pattern, but in the
opposite direction as Hachiji Buri (start from down-up direction).
Use the whole arm for the swing.

8.) Gyaku Kote Hachiji Buri - Same swing as Gyaku Hachiji Buri, but only use your wrist.

9.) Ura Buri - The Nunchaku is rotated a full 360 degrees vertically either clockwise or counter clockwise.

10.) Naga Buri - Swing one side of the nunchaku so that the free side strikes to the jodan area of the opponent.
