1.) Hon Mochi - Hold the nunchaku around
the middle (about 1.5 fist lengths from the top).
Holding the nunchaku at this
position offers you the greatest amount of control, and doesn't
put too much
pressure on the wrists. This is the fundamental position. It is easy to swing,
hit and block in this position.
2.) Gyaku Mochi - This position is not used very
often. Hold the nunchaku with the strings
facing down. Although possible, it is
hard to swing the nunchaku in this position. However,
it is easy to hit and
thrust.
3.) Ichi Monji - Hold the nunchaku horizontally.
4.) Kata Te Mochi (Tatami Mochi) - Hold both
sides of the nunchaku in one hand. From this
position, you can easily throw,
block or strike quickly. Also the other hand is free to punch, grab etc.
